Self-Cleaning Glass

Self-cleaning glass is no longer just a dream. Truly Conservatory Repairs recommend ActivTM Blue, a self cleaning glass with solar control and Ultra 'N' Low e from Pilkington. This can be combined with Pilkington K GlassTM or Pilkington OptithermTM S4 for optimal thermal performance and keeping the conservatory warmer in the windet.

Pilkington ActivTM

ActivTM is the world first self-cleaning glass. It’s unique coating breaks down and loosens even heavy organic soiling. The secret lies in it’s special coating, which breaks down organic dirt when activated by UV light. By doing this it also reduces the adherence of inorganic dirt.

The rain then plays it’s part by spreading droplets out to form a sheet to which dirt particles are picked up and washed away. It even works on cloudy days and at night!

Glass Features Explained

Self Clean

Coating that reacts with sunlight to break down dirt on the surface. In addition rain 'sheets' away quickly, rather than forming droplets and leaving unsightly ‘drying spots’.

Solar Control

Helps regulate the amount of solar energy that enters a conservatory. Provides a more comfortable and energy efficient conservatory.

Low E

Low emissivity cloating applied to the external face of the internal pane helps to reflect heat back into the conservatory.

Solar Transmission

The proportion of the Suns energy that is transmitted through the glass or polycarbonate sheet. The lower the percentage the better it is.

Argon Gas

Gas filled cavity reduces the transfer of heat through the unit.

U Value

A measurement to describe the rate of heat transfer from one side of the unit to the other. The lower the better.

Solar Heat Reflection

Percentage of heat from the sun that can be reflected to prevent conservatory from getting uncomfortably warm.

Light Transmission

Percentage of light that passes through the double-glazed unit or polycarbonate sheet. A lower figure means reduced glare and less risk of sun damage to furnishings.
